Slug system works lik URL Structures. If you want to change slug/permalink of the posts and taxonomoies; you can change it from here.
As you can see from the settings page, after making any changes in this section, please save the permalink settings again. This will trigger flush rewrite, and the changes will only be reflected on the site afterward.
For an example, if you change thread to content;
https://domain.com/thread/rabbit-2131223 will be changed as: https://domain.com/content/rabbit-2131223
